The National Additive Manufacturing and Innovation Company earned a Saudi military manufacturing license, clearing the way for regulated defense hardware production in the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Military Industries granted a Military Manufacturing License to the National Additive Manufacturing and Innovation Company (NAMI) on July 29, 2026. The license authorizes NAMI to produce regulated military hardware locally, a significant step for the joint venture between 3D Systems, Dussur, and Saudi Energy.
The approval aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes domestic defense manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports. NAMI's facility in Saudi Arabia already serves as one of the Kingdom's largest additive manufacturing operations, and the new license lets the company bid on government and military contracts that were previously off-limits.
3D Systems stands to benefit from the expanded mandate. The American company supplied the metal AM technology and process expertise for NAMI's initial setup. With the military license in place, NAMI can now produce end-use defense parts rather than limiting itself to prototyping and non-regulated work.
Local press tied to the announcement names Modern Isotope Factory and Lockheed Martin among the entities involved in NAMI's ecosystem. Mohammed Swaidan represents NAMI's leadership in public filings. The Saudi Electricity Company has also been linked to the venture's power and infrastructure planning.
The license does not specify which weapon systems or components NAMI will produce. But the General Authority for Military Industries oversees everything from small arms to aerospace parts, so NAMI's metal 3D printing capabilities could cover a broad range of applications.
For 3D Systems, the deal provides a foothold in one of the world's largest defense spending markets without the company having to operate there directly. NAMI's military license strengthens the joint venture's value proposition at a moment when 3D Systems is searching for a new CEO and reviewing its global portfolio.
