AM North slashes project documentation from eight hours to under two using amsight's quality management platform for certified additive manufacturing production.

AM North's Documentation Problem

When AM North launched in 2023, the Norwegian additive manufacturing company relied on the same tools most small shops use: Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and PDFs compiled by hand. Each project required roughly eight hours of documentation work to satisfy customer and certification requirements. That overhead became a bottleneck as the company grew beyond its oil and gas roots into fish farming, defense, and mining.

What amsight Changes

amsight's quality management software connects data across the entire build workflow. The system captures information from planning and machine monitoring through post-processing, inspection, and final reporting. Instead of manually transferring data between systems, AM North staff can now generate structured quality evidence in about 1.5 to 2 hours per project.

Jan-Inge Kongsbak, Managing Director at AM North, said the shift was necessary as the company pursued DNV-related certification. "As we moved further into certified AM production, it became clear that manual documentation could not be our long-term answer. We needed a system that could connect machine data, build information, test results, and process steps in one place."

Why This Matters for Industrial AM

The partnership highlights a broader trend: production additive manufacturing needs software built specifically for it, not generic tools adapted after the fact. amsight CEO Tim Wischeropp put it plainly: "When customers, auditors, and regulated industries ask for proof, scattered files and manual reports are not enough."

AM North is expanding its footprint with new facilities and additional AM and machining capability. The company's move toward automated quality documentation could serve as a template for other service bureaus trying to scale from prototype shops to certified production partners.
