Artec 3D has released the Point II, a refreshed handheld laser scanner for industrial metrology with improved data capture and the same Artec Studio workflow.

Artec 3D has released the Point II, a second-generation handheld laser scanner aimed at industrial metrology and quality inspection. The new unit replaces the original Point while keeping the same accuracy class, price, and Artec Studio software workflow.

What Changed

The upgrade is internal. Artec reconfigured the laser array to capture more data points per scan. That denser point cloud improves the quality of the resulting 3D models, especially on surfaces with fine detail or subtle surface deviation.

Everything else stays the same. The form factor, target-based scanning method, and post-processing pipeline are unchanged, which means existing Point users can move to Point II without retraining or rebuilding their inspection workflows.

A Consistent Playbook

Point II follows a pattern Artec has used before. The 2023 Micro II doubled the accuracy of the original Micro scanner by upgrading the sensor hardware while keeping the same one-click workflow. The 2022 Artec Leo received a faster processor and improved color capture without changing its touchscreen or wireless form factor.

Across the lineup, the strategy has been to refresh the hardware inside a proven scanner rather than ask users to learn a new product. Point II extends that approach to the metrology tier.

Who It Is For

The Point II targets engineers and quality teams running dimensional inspection, reverse engineering, and first-article verification in manufacturing. The target-based method works well on machined metal parts, castings, and assembled components where repeatable reference placement matters.

Artec Studio's alignment and meshing algorithms turn the raw scan data into inspection-ready models quickly, which matters on production floors where turnaround time affects throughput.

The Point II is available now through Artec 3D's authorized reseller network.
