Bambu Lab will close MakerWorld's AI Scanner and PrintMon Maker on September 20, saying the current versions no longer meet community expectations.
The September 20 Cutoff
Bambu Lab is pulling two of MakerWorld's most visible AI features. On September 20, 2026, the AI Scanner and PrintMon Maker will disappear from the platform's MakerLab section, the company announced. Existing PrintMon Maker links will keep working, but users will no longer be able to create new projects or edit existing ones. The AI Scanner will shut down entirely.
Bambu Lab's explanation is blunt: the current versions of both tools no longer meet the community's expectations for model quality and user experience. Any models or projects already confirmed with MakerLab credits will remain accessible and exportable, so paid work is not being deleted. Still, anyone midway through a PrintMon Maker Pro project should finish it before the deadline.
What Each Tool Did
The AI Scanner let users capture real-world objects with AI recognition and turn them into printable models, all inside the browser. PrintMon Maker used generative AI to let users build custom figures and models directly in MakerLab. Both ran through MakerWorld with no extra software, which made them easy to try but also left Bambu Lab fully responsible for keeping them updated.
What Comes Next
Bambu Lab says redesigned replacements are coming, though it has not shared a date or a feature list. The shutdown is a reminder that platform-hosted AI tools can change quickly, and that community model platforms are still figuring out which features are worth maintaining. For now, makers who relied on the AI Scanner will need to look elsewhere for photogrammetry or scan-to-model workflows, while PrintMon fans should export anything they want to keep.
