HeyGears is crowdfunding a desktop-size full-color 3D printer that outputs vibrant models with water-soluble supports and textured finishing.
Full-color 3D printing has been the domain of large industrial machines for years. HeyGears is trying to bring that capability down to the desktop with its new G1X, currently raising funds on Kickstarter.
The G1X uses an Epson printhead with 3,200 nozzles and eight ink channels. That setup can produce more than 10 million colors at up to 1,440 by 2,400 DPI. Layer thickness ranges from 10 to 20 microns, which is thinner than a human hair.
Unlike standard filament printers, the G1X jets color ink layer by layer and cures it with UV light. Supports dissolve in water, so you don't need to spend hours sanding or painting. The machine also handles 2D UV printing on wood, metal, ceramic, glass, and over 400 other materials. That opens up custom phone cases, keychains, and promotional products.
A rotary bed attachment is available for cylindrical items like tumblers. The build volume measures 330 x 130 x 420 mm, and the printer includes an air filtration system with a carbon filter to keep odors down.
Pricing starts at $1,999 for the starter pack on Kickstarter. The full G1X package costs $3,599. HeyGears says orders will ship worldwide in December 2026. As with any crowdfunding campaign, there is risk involved, but the company has been selling 3D printers for years and raised nearly $10 million to develop this one.
