Multicolor 3D printing moved from novelty to practical workflow at IFA 2026, with faster color changes, less waste, and new entrants from outside the traditional 3D printing space.

What IFA 2026 Revealed About Consumer Multicolor Printing

IFA Berlin is not a 3D printing show. It is a consumer electronics show. Yet this year, 3D printing occupied more floor space than ever before, and the dominant theme was multicolor capability. The message from manufacturers was clear: color switching used to be slow and messy. Now it is not.

Creality arrived with the largest 3D printing presence at the show. Its new K3 printer uses a mechanical nozzle-swapping system that changes nozzles in under five seconds. The company claims this can cut print time by up to 80 percent and material waste by up to 85 percent. The system also lets different nozzles handle different tasks in the same print. A fine nozzle can render surface detail while a larger nozzle fills infill faster.

Creality also showed the SPARKX i8, which keeps four filaments loaded and ready. The idea is simpler than nozzle swapping: all four materials sit in their own path until the slicer calls for a change. The transition is fast because the printer does not need to purge an entire hotend. Both machines won IFA Innovation Awards.

Flashforge, Anycubic, and Prusa all had multicolor machines on display. So did MOVA, a consumer electronics brand backed by Dreame Group. MOVA already sells a 36-color printer called the Palette 300. At IFA, the company previewed a simpler model called the H1 that swaps materials using separate nozzles rather than a single purging system. MOVA says the H1 will arrive within three to four months.

The broader trend is that multicolor printing is becoming a commodity feature rather than a premium experiment. When consumer electronics brands start building 3D printers, the technology has crossed a line. The next step is whether these machines can match the reliability of single-color printers. IFA 2026 suggests that question will be answered by the end of the year.
