South Korea's Lincsolution Builds AM Defense Hub Amid US-China Tensions

A Defense Hub in Daejeon

Lincsolution will establish an additive manufacturing hub for aerospace and defense in Daejeon, South Korea. The facility will connect to the company's existing 200,000-square-foot AM site, scheduled for completion by December. The new hub operates on dedicated servers isolated from external networks, a requirement for defense work.

The company is working toward compliance with the Pentagon's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, or CMMC. Phase 2 of that program is under review, but Phase 1 guidelines remain in force. Lincsolution plans to produce satellite components, guided weapons parts, and low-volume items for mature weapons systems that often face long lead times in defense supply chains.

Trade War Context

South Korea finds itself between the world's two largest economies. The US is a close security partner and major trade destination. China is South Korea's largest trading partner. Recent US moves to scale back joint military exercises with South Korea, combined with China-South Korea discussions about a leaders' summit, put Seoul in a difficult position.

Lincsolution's defense hub reads as a bet on national self-reliance in advanced manufacturing. The company went public on the KOSDAQ in June 2025. Last year it signed a contract to supply South Korea's military with an expeditionary 3D printing system and agreed to provide Hyundai with auto parts at scale. The Army recognized Lincsolution this year for its work on 3D printed drones.

Why It Matters

Advanced manufacturing has become a pressure point in US-China competition. The US military treats AM capabilities as a strategic asset and has embedded 3D printing into joint exercises like RIMPAC and Combined Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore. South Korea's decision to build a dedicated defense AM hub signals that it intends to keep that capability on its own soil, independent of either superpower's supply chain.
