Scale-up experience
Metal Powder Works has appointed Dr Ahmed El Desouky as chief operating officer, tasking him with scaling manufacturing capacity and improving production yield across its metal powder portfolio.
El Desouky joins from Veeco Instruments, where he served as Director of Operations for New Product Introduction. At Veeco, he built the company's additive manufacturing function from a two-person operation into a production-capable team. Metal Powder Works says that experience is directly applicable to its own expansion plans.
The company is moving from customer qualification into commercial-scale production. It operates a manufacturing base in Pittsburgh and produces more than 25 metal powders, including high-strength aluminum, copper, and specialty alloys. The board believes El Desouky's background in public-company operations will help MPW manage the operational demands of growth.
John Barnes, Managing Director of Metal Powder Works, said the appointment brings metallurgical depth and operating discipline at a moment when the company needs both. The metal powder market has tightened as additive manufacturing adoption grows, and suppliers that can demonstrate consistent quality and volume are gaining traction with end users.
