Prusa Research just upgraded its entire lineup. If you already own an XL, Core One, or Core One L, you can get the new plus-model upgrades without buying a new machine.

Prusa Research has announced second-generation upgrades for its three most popular printers: the XL, the Core One, and the Core One L. The new models carry a plus sign in their names, but the more important detail is that existing owners do not have to buy new printers to get the improvements. Upgrade kits are coming, and new orders placed before shipment will receive the updated versions automatically at no extra cost.

What changed

The upgrades are not cosmetic. All three plus models gain a nozzle wiper, which keeps the nozzle clean between prints without requiring slicer hacks or community modifications. That is a quality-of-life improvement that addresses one of the most common complaints on Prusa's forums.

The XL+ gets the biggest package. It receives a 360-degree cooling system borrowed from the MK4S, a permanently mounted Tool Offset Sensor that is twenty times faster than the old pin-tapping method, GT1.5 belts for better surface quality, and high-flow nozzles as standard equipment. An optional HT Hotend reaching 400 degrees Celsius will be available separately for users who need to print engineering-grade materials like PEKK-CF and PPS-CF.

The Core One+ (Gen 2) receives the same nozzle wiper and GT1.5 belts as the XL+, plus improved heatbed mounting and the snap-on top panel first seen on the Core One L. The Core One L+ gets the new belts and the integrated nozzle wiper, keeping its price and form factor unchanged while closing the small feature gap with its larger sibling.

Pricing and availability

Prusa Research did not raise prices on any of the upgraded machines. The Core One L+ upgrade kit is listed at 22.99 British pounds, which is unusually affordable for a manufacturer-backed refresh. Complete upgrade kits for the XL+ and Core One+ will follow later in August and into September.

Orders already in progress will be upgraded automatically. Prusa said there is nothing buyers need to do if they placed an order for an XL, Core One, or Core One L that has not shipped yet. The updated machine will arrive instead.

What it means for owners

This is an unusually owner-friendly move. Printer manufacturers rarely offer free hardware upgrades to existing customers, and when they do, it is usually limited to minor firmware changes or a free accessory. Prusa is sending new belts, new cooling hardware, and a new nozzle wiper to people who bought the original machines months or years ago.

The upgrade path also extends to software. Prusa Slicer 2.0, firmware updates, and new print profiles will continue to support the older machines even as the plus models hit the market. Owners who do not want to upgrade their hardware are not being left behind.

Bottom line

If you are already in the Prusa ecosystem, this refresh gives you a clear upgrade route without forcing a full replacement. If you are shopping for a new printer, the plus models are effectively the default now. The XL+, Core One+, and Core One L+ are on sale now through Prusa's web store, with kit and individual part availability rolling out through September.
