Prusa has launched a contest encouraging makers to repurpose their old filament spools using the new OpenPrintTag NFC system. The open-source smart spool standard ships with redesigned Prusament spools, featuring built-in NFC tags that store filament data.

Reader hardware for Prusa printers became available in Q1 2026, and the PRUSA.app team continues adding new features.
