Prusa Research is adding nozzle wipers, GT1.5 belts, and improved sensors across the XL, Core One, and Core One L, with upgrade kits arriving in September.

What is changing

Prusa Research announced second-generation upgrades for its XL, Core One, and Core One L 3D printers. All new orders placed now will receive the upgraded models automatically, and existing owners can buy upgrade kits starting in September.

The most requested addition is a nozzle wiper. Prusa said it studied community modifications before designing an integrated wiper that does not require custom g-code changes. The XL also receives a 360-degree cooling system borrowed from the MK4S, plus an INDX Tool Offset Sensor that replaces the older pin-tapping alignment method. The new eddy-current sensor is 20 times faster and mounts permanently to the machine.

Key upgrades across the lineup

All three printers get GT1.5 belts, which Prusa says improve surface finish and durability. The Core One+ gains improved heatbed mounting and the same snap-on top panel found on the larger Core One L. An optional HT Hotend for the Core One lineup will arrive in September, capable of reaching 400 degrees Celsius for tough engineering filaments like PEKK-CF and PPS-CF.

The XL enclosure is also being upgraded with chamber heating and better seals. Prusa did not raise prices for any machine receiving the plus upgrade.

What this means for buyers

If you ordered a Prusa XL, Core One, or Core One L recently, check your order status. Prusa said in-progress orders will ship with the plus upgrades at no extra charge. For current owners, the upgrade kits will be available piece by piece on Prusa's webstore, so you can pick and choose which improvements matter most to you.
