Prusa released the first public preview of PrusaSlicer 3.0, a full rewrite 15 years in the making.
Not just another update
Prusa Research dropped the first public preview of PrusaSlicer 3.0 on September 1, 2026. The timing is deliberate: exactly 15 years after Josef Prusa made the very first Slic3r commit back in 2011. This is not a minor version bump. The company threw out the entire user interface and rebuilt it from scratch.
Multiple beds, one project
The biggest practical change is the new project system. You can now set up several print beds inside a single project file. Each bed runs its own profile, its own printer, its own settings. Prepare a batch for your MK4S and your XL side by side without bouncing between windows. The old nine-bed limit is gone, and beds slice in parallel.
Profiles that match your actual printer
The old profile system assumed one nozzle, one configuration. Modern multi-tool printers like the Prusa XL break that model. A single toolhead can carry a 0.25 mm nozzle for fine detail, while another uses 0.6 mm for large parts. PrusaSlicer 3.0 finally describes the hardware you actually have. Choosing a nozzle is now as simple as picking a tool from a dropdown.
Plugins and performance
Prusa also introduced a safe plugin system. The idea is to corral the many single-feature forks that have popped up over the years into something everyone can use. Rendering performance is noticeably better, and the application now auto-backs up open projects locally so you can recover after a crash.
Try it, break it, report back
This is an early alpha. It is not meant for production work. Run it alongside your existing 2.9.6 install. Prusa wants bug reports on GitHub or its forum. The preview is available to download now.
