SainSmart's Genmitsu PRONAX series puts automatic tool changing on the desktop, with the Spark starting at $2,799 and the Forge at $2,999.

The Hardware

SainSmart has spent the last decade selling entry-level CNC machines to hobbyists and small shops. With the Genmitsu PRONAX series, the company is trying to move its customers up a tier without scaring them away with six-figure industrial prices. Two models launch at once: the Spark and the Forge.

The Spark offers a 600 by 900 by 118 mm working area. The Forge expands that to 800 by 800 by 118 mm. Both machines share the same core motion system: ball screws on the X and Y axes, linear rails, and a 2.2 kW air-cooled spindle that spins up to 18,000 RPM. Closed-loop NEMA24 motors with 3.5 Nm torque drive the axes.

The NAX5 Tool Changer

The real story is the NAX5 automatic tool changer. It is a five-slot system that mounts directly to the PRONAX frame and communicates with the control box over RS-485. When the gcode calls for a tool change, the sequence runs without manual intervention. Length compensation and slot identification happen automatically.

Tool changing on desktop CNCs has been awkward for years. Most solutions were aftermarket add-ons with mixed firmware support. SainSmart built the NAX5 specifically for these machines and validated the combination before shipping. That integration matters. A poorly implemented ATC system will crash a tool into the bed faster than you can hit the emergency stop.

Who This Is For

SainSmart frames the PRONAX as a step up for sign shops, woodworking studios, and small manufacturers who have outgrown single-tool routers. If your production run needs three different bit sizes and you are currently swapping them by hand between every job, the time savings add up fast. The Spark at $2,799 and the Forge at $2,999 are aggressive prices for machines with this level of rigidity and expansion options.

The machines support 4th axis add-ons, dust collection, vacuum fixtures, and laser engraving. Offline control is built in, so you do not need a dedicated PC attached to run jobs. GRBL 1.1f compatibility means the software ecosystem is mature. If you have used Easel, Candle, or UGS before, you already know how to operate a PRONAX.

The Catch

Automatic tool changing does introduce complexity. The NAX5 is currently validated only for the Spark and Forge. SainSmart says it is evaluating compatibility with other Genmitsu platforms, but there is no timeline. If you already own a different Genmitsu CNC and were hoping to add ATC later, you will need to wait.

Shipping dates also vary by region. Some configurations show late September or early October delivery, which is typical for newly launched hardware but worth factoring in if you have a paying job waiting on equipment.
