A new Kickstarter project offers 60 configurable 3D-printed drawer modules that plug directly into Gridfinity workshop setups.

The Vault modular storage system has arrived on Kickstarter with a simple premise: 3D print your own workshop organisation system, tailored to the exact sizes you need. Built around the same 42 x 42 mm grid that powers Gridfinity, Vault offers 60 size configurations across three widths, three heights, and five depths, plus an XL variant for heavier items.

What Vault Actually Delivers

Each Vault module is a self-contained drawer unit designed to be printed on a standard desktop FDM printer. The system uses structural reinforcements along the sides and bottom to keep drawers rigid under load, which matters when you are storing tooling, filament spools, or small hardware. Angled parts and fins add stability without requiring glue or fasteners during assembly.

Full-extension drawer slides are part of the design, so modules do not trap contents at the back. Lock mechanisms are also included for materials you want to secure. The cross-compatibility between S, M, L, and XL modules means you can expand the system as your workshop grows, mixing sizes without custom redesigns.

Why Gridfinity Compatibility Matters

Gridfinity has become the de facto standard for 3D-printed workshop organisation. Its 42 x 42 mm base grid lets makers design bins, drawers, and holders that slot into a unified system. Vault adopts that same grid, so existing Gridfinity users can drop Vault modules into their current setups without rebuilding from scratch. That is a practical advantage over proprietary storage systems that lock you into one vendor's geometry.

Who Should Back It

Vault is aimed at makers who already own a 3D printer and want their tool and filament storage to match it. The modular approach means you print only the modules you need, when you need them, rather than buying a fixed set of shelves or bins that may not fit your space. The Kickstarter backing period appears to be in its final hours at time of writing.

The system is not a complete solution out of the box. You will need to source your own drawer slides, locks, and filament. The value is in the design and the flexibility it provides, not in a turnkey product.
