UK additive manufacturing service provider 3D People has deployed AMIS Runtime across its London production facility, aiming for faster turnaround times and higher consistency across shifts.
Automation Meets Additive Manufacturing
London-based additive manufacturing service provider 3D People has deployed AMIS Runtime across its production facility, marking a significant step toward automated build preparation in the UK AM industry.
The company is leveraging AMIS' programmable build preparation engine to complement its existing powder bed fusion capacity. According to 3D People, the implementation will deliver faster turnaround times, higher consistency across shifts, and increased production capacity.
Building the Digital Thread
Sasha Bruml, Co-founder of 3D People, said: "This project marked a key step in our long-term digital manufacturing strategy. It builds upon our existing MES platform, closing the loop between digital order management and physical production. The results are exciting with a more efficient, data-driven workflow that reduces human error, increases repeatability."
In recent months, AMIS and 3D People have collaboratively developed and tested Runtime across the London facility with real-world validation before full deployment.
What is AMIS Runtime?
AMIS Runtime is the first software platform to offer fully autonomous, continuously re-nested build preparation for additive manufacturing. It automates the complete workflow from part import and slicing to intelligent nesting and exporting, making operations more consistent, configurable and repeatable across SLS, MJF, Binder Jetting, and Material Jetting systems.
The software allows users to define part-specific nesting behaviour based on size class, geometry, shell density, metadata flags, or business rules — enabling different part types to follow different optimisation strategies.
Industry Trend
This deployment reflects a broader industry trend toward software automation in additive manufacturing. As service providers scale production, the bottleneck has shifted from printer throughput to build preparation efficiency. Solutions like AMIS Runtime aim to close that gap by reducing manual operations and enabling hands-off workflows.
