Norwegian AM producer AM North adopted amsight quality software and now spends around 90 minutes on project documentation instead of eight hours.
From paper files to a digital backbone
AM North, a Norwegian additive manufacturing company based in Hammerfest, has a problem that sounds familiar to anyone trying to turn 3D printing into a production business. The company could make the parts, but proving it to customers and auditors took almost as long as the build itself. Before adopting amsight's quality management platform, each project needed roughly eight hours of manual documentation. Excel sheets, Word files, PDFs, and paper records had to be gathered, checked, compiled, and delivered.
That has now dropped to about 1.5 to 2 hours per project, according to the company. The difference is not just speed; it is structure. amsight connects machine data, build information, inspection results, and post-processing steps in one place, so the quality evidence builds up during production instead of after it.
Why certified production needs more than a folder of PDFs
AM North works on industrial spare parts and production applications in northern Norway, with customers tied to oil, gas, fish farming, defence, and mining. Many of those parts need DNV-related certification and clear traceability. Manual reports were not going to scale.
"As we moved further into certified AM production, it became clear that manual documentation could not be our long-term answer," said Jan-Inge Kongsbak, Managing Director at AM North. "We needed a system that could connect machine data, build information, test results, and process steps in one place."
A wider signal for the AM industry
The shift at AM North is part of a larger pattern. amsight has also been adopted by German manufacturer toolcraft for semiconductor-related AM production, and the company has worked with Qualified AM on standards around ISO/ASTM 52920, 52930, and 52954. Regulated industries are asking for proof, and scattered files are no longer enough.
"AM still has to prove itself in many industries," Kongsbak said. "Quality software helps us show that additive manufacturing is not a hobby technology, it is a serious production method when the process is controlled and the evidence is clear."
