Artec 3D's new Point II handheld laser scanner captures 5.8 million points per second while keeping its certified 0.02mm accuracy.

What Artec Changed

Artec 3D has released the Point II, a refresh of its metrology-grade handheld laser scanner. The hardware upgrade is straightforward: more lasers, more speed, same accuracy. The original Point topped out at roughly 2.3 million points per second. The Point II jumps to 5.8 million points per second by expanding its laser configuration to 54 lines in ultra-fast mode and 17 parallel lines in hyperfine mode. A third single-laser mode targets deep holes and narrow features that wider grids miss.

The accuracy rating stays at 0.02 mm. That number is verified in an ISO-certified lab and compliant with VDI/VDE 2634 and JJF 1951 standards. For anyone using this scanner in quality control or reverse engineering, that consistency matters more than raw speed.

Three Modes, One Button

Operators switch between ultra-fast, hyperfine, and single-laser modes at the touch of a button. Ultra-fast mode covers large surfaces quickly. Hyperfine mode trades speed for detail on complex geometry. Single-laser mode reaches into deep cavities. The scanner is palm-sized, IP50-rated for dust, and operates from minus 10 to 40 degrees Celsius.

Artec Studio software handles processing. The Point II integrates with other Artec scanners in the same project. That flexibility matters for teams that already own an Eva, Leo, or Spider II.

Who Should Buy It

This is a metrology tool, not a hobby scanner. If you run a mold shop, check automotive castings, or reverse-engineer mechanical parts for aerospace, the Point II replaces the original Point in Artec's lineup. The price has not been published, but the upgrade pattern here is familiar: keep the accuracy, the workflow, and the price stable while pushing more data through the same physical form.

The Point II is available now through Artec 3D's global certified partner network.
