A new platform from Copenhagen-based ATLANT 3D connects AI materials discovery with atomic-scale fabrication, promising faster development of semiconductors and quantum materials.
What NANOFABRICATOR PRO does
ATLANT 3D has shipped a new machine that sits between AI-designed materials and real-world fabrication. The NANOFABRICATOR PRO uses the company's Direct Atomic Layer Processing technology to deposit and modify material at atomic scale. It is meant for semiconductor, advanced packaging, quantum, and research environments where rapid iteration matters more than high-volume output.
The system supports substrates up to 200 millimeters, line widths of 100 micrometers, and deposition speeds up to 500 millimeters per second. It handles up to six materials in a single run. Those specs are ATLANT 3D's own numbers, not independently verified, but they give a sense of the machine's intended role: small batches, complex structures, fast cycles.
Why this matters
AI can now propose thousands of material combinations in hours. The bottleneck is building and testing them. NANOFABRICATOR PRO is built to close that loop. It combines programmable deposition, experimental validation, and device prototyping in one platform, rather than sending designs to a separate fabrication lab and waiting weeks for results.
The company says a July order from an unnamed global AI hyperscaler for its smaller NANOFABRICATOR LITE proves demand exists. The PRO version pushes the same principle toward industrial R&D, with SEMI compliance and U.S. manufacturing through Automated Industrial Robotics Silicon Valley.
The commercial question
ATLANT 3D is not just selling hardware. It is trying to become the infrastructure layer for AI-driven materials development. Future upgrades will add integrated metrology and self-driving process control, so experimental results feed back into subsequent material decisions automatically.
That is an ambitious claim. The machine still needs to prove it can generate reproducible results across substrates and systems, and that customers can transfer winning materials from the platform into full production without a painful handoff. Price and delivery timing have not been disclosed. The real test begins when the first PRO systems arrive in customer laboratories.
