BigRep partners with SEMA Garage to give 6,000 aftermarket auto companies access to large-format 3D printing for prototyping and custom parts.

BigRep Breaks Into the Auto Aftermarket

Large-format 3D printer manufacturer BigRep has secured a strategic partnership with SEMA Garage, the product development arm of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA). The deal gives SEMA's 6,000 member companies direct access to BigRep's industrial-grade extrusion 3D printing technology.

The partnership will see a BigRep STUDIO machine installed at SEMA Garage's facility in Diamond Bar, California. This marks BigRep's largest entry point into the automotive aftermarket sector in North America.

Why the Aftermarket Matters for 3D Printing

For years, automotive 3D printing has focused on prototyping and functional parts for OEMs. But the aftermarket—customization, restyling, and performance upgrades—represents a massive untapped market. Unlike safety-critical OEM parts, aftermarket components let companies scale adoption without the heavy regulatory burden.

"We could not be more excited about this partnership with SEMA Garage," said Jeff Olson, President of BigRep America. "It is a meaningful step forward in how we bring large-format AM to the automotive industry in North America."

BigRep already has experience in automotive, with relationships at major OEMs including Ford and NASCAR teams like Legacy Motor Club. This new partnership extends that expertise to the wider customization market.

The Bigger Picture

This deal signals a shift in how 3D printing OEMs approach market expansion. By partnering with established networks rather than going direct-to-consumer, BigRep gains instant access to thousands of potential customers who may never have considered additive manufacturing before.

As the technology becomes more accessible, expect to see more custom aftermarket parts—interior trim, aesthetic components, and one-off accessories—produced via large-format 3D printing.
