The Metal That Matters

MAR-M 247LC is one of the hardest-working nickel-based superalloys in aerospace and energy. It is used in gas turbine blades, combustion chambers, and other parts that spend their entire service life at extreme temperatures. Getting it right has traditionally meant investment casting: a slow, tool-heavy process with long lead times. Binder jetting could offer a different path, but the material is so demanding that no one has proven the technology can match cast performance at scale.

That is the focus of an upcoming free webinar on August 6 hosted by Continuum Powders in partnership with 3DPrint.com. AmPd Labs CEO Tim Neal and Continuum R&D VP Dr. Sunil Badwe will present recent mechanical testing results comparing binder-jetted MAR-M 247LC to conventionally cast material.

What the Data Shows

The session will cover ongoing qualification work, the material science behind processing the alloy, and where binder jetting is already showing promise for production applications. The companies have published a white paper on mechanical properties that attendees can reference before the event.

Why It Matters

If binder jetting can deliver equivalent mechanical performance with shorter lead times and no tooling, it changes the economics of high-temperature metal parts. Aerospace and defense suppliers in particular are watching this closely because supply chain constraints on castings have gotten worse, not better, over the past few years.
