Bondtech admitted that the INDX nozzles shipped with Prusa CORE One+ kits measure only 30 HRC, not the 55-60 HRC buyers expected for abrasive-filament printing.
What the admission actually says
Bondtech confirmed on July 29 that the nozzles included with its INDX tool-changer system are not truly hardened. The company listed them as hardened and suitable for carbon fiber, glass fiber, and glow-in-the-dark filaments, but the shipped parts measure 30 to 32 HRC on the Rockwell scale. Genuine hardened-steel nozzles typically hit 55 to 60 HRC.
The gap matters. Abrasive filaments eat through softer nozzles fast. Owners who paid for a system marketed around heavy-duty materials are now finding their nozzles wear out far sooner than expected.
Who is affected
The problem hits Prusa CORE One+ buyers the hardest. Prusa distributes the INDX assembly kits and bundles them with the printer. Founders Edition owners and early production batches all received the same non-hardened nozzles.
Prusa forum threads filled with complaints within days. Users pointed out that Bondtech's communication was poor, with reports of critics being blocked on Discord. That only made the frustration worse.
Compensation and the road ahead
Bondtech says properly hardened nozzles take months to produce. For now, the company is offering vague upgrade paths at an unspecified extra cost. Prusa has right of recourse against Bondtech for customer claims under EU directive, but no clean fix is in place yet.
Founders Edition buyers were promised compensation details the week of July 20. Many are still waiting. The open-source community is watching closely, and trust in the INDX platform will take time to recover.
The real test is whether Bondtech can ship nozzles that match the original spec. Until then, anyone planning an INDX-based multi-material setup should assume they will need to buy hardened nozzles separately.
