A New Era for Desktop 3D Printing

China has exported more than 5 million 3D printers in 2025, marking a pivotal moment for desktop additive manufacturing. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, analyzed by CBD Technology and Nanjixiong, the total reached 5.03 million units, up 33% year over year, while export value rose to 11.36 billion RMB ($1.6 billion), up 39.1%.

This isn not a one-year spike — it is the culmination of an eight-year climb. China exports have grown from roughly 535,000 units in 2017 to about 5 million in 2025.

Who is Buying?

The United States remained the largest destination in 2025, taking close to 2 million units. Germany followed at roughly 1 million. Other leading markets include Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Poland, the Netherlands, Japan, and India.

This spread across multiple mature and emerging markets suggests China desktop 3D printer boom is not tied to just one region — it is truly global.

Where They Come From

Guangdong accounts for roughly 85% of exports (about 4.08 million units), with Zhejiang far behind at around 9% (roughly 416,000). This reflects where much of the industry is based — Shenzhen is home to Creality, Bambu Lab, and a massive supplier network.

What This Means

Desktop printers are no longer just for hobbyists. They are faster, more reliable, and work right out of the box. Multi-color printing, AI tools, and upcoming desktop SLS are the next big trends. As CBD Technology notes, China is not just making machines — it is building the global installed base of desktop 3D printers.
