CoreTechnologie released version 1.8 of its 4D Additive software this week. The update focuses on three areas: traceability, automatic data repair, and lattice generation.

The most visible addition is the Build History Tree. This works like the design history tree in modern CAD programs. Every step in the build preparation process gets logged in a structured list. Users can jump back to any step, change parameters, and see exactly what changed. The goal is full transparency across complex AM workflows where multiple engineers might touch the same file.

Auto-Repair Gets a Major Upgrade

The healing tool now includes an Advanced Automatic Mode. A single click can fix models with severe triangulation errors or poor-quality source data. Previously, fixing those problems required manual operations across several panels. For teams that receive external files from customers or partners, the new mode removes a consistent bottleneck.

4D Additive still supports both exact CAD geometry and triangulated data. Users can mix the two within the same project: import native CAD for precision, convert to triangulated data for speed, then run the repair tool on the messier parts. That flexibility matters for shops that handle both in-house designs and third-party files.

New Stiffener Structures

Thin-walled parts have always been a headache in additive manufacturing. Large, flat surfaces can warp during printing, ruining dimensional accuracy. The new stiffener structures in 1.8 add internal bracing to those areas without changing the external geometry. The braces are generated automatically based on the part shape and material.

Lattice design also got an update. The software now adapts lattice patterns to the specific part geometry and functional requirements. That means better material usage and more consistent mechanical performance across the same build.
