Czinger's 21C Spyder uses 3D-printed metal for nearly a quarter of its structure and introduces a single-piece brake system, with just 30 units planned at $2.75 million.

A Roof Goes Missing

Czinger just unveiled its first open-top model, the 21C Spyder. The car still makes 1,250 horsepower and still costs $2.75 million. What changes is the roof. Only 30 will be built, and most will likely sell before Monterey Car Week ends.

The Spyder shares its core architecture with the fixed-roof 21C. That architecture is worth examining. Roughly 23% of the car's structure is 3D-printed metal, produced through a process Czinger calls BioLogic Engineering. The method uses generative design to place material only where strength and stiffness are needed. The result looks less like a machined assembly and more like something grown in a vat.

BrakeNode Changes the Rules

The new technology on display is BrakeNode. Traditional brake systems split the caliper, mounting bracket, and hydraulic lines into separate parts. Czinger merged all of them into one 3D-printed aluminum component that wraps around the carbon-ceramic rotors.

The integrated design cuts 1.5 pounds of unsprung mass at each corner. Czinger claims stiffness rises by up to 30% and stopping distances shrink by as much as 15%. The old separate upright and caliper are gone. In their place is a single tangled structure that looks like aluminum lace.

NeuralNode Dashboard

Inside, the Spyder debuts NeuralNode. This is another additively manufactured structure that integrates the instrument panel, air vents, and button pods. Physical buttons replace the touchscreen elements found in the earlier models. The steering wheel is also 3D-printed, continuing the theme of consolidation.

The carbon fiber chassis needed only minor changes to pass rollover tests without a roof. Engineers added roughly 22 pounds of carbon fiber around the windshield and A-pillars. Downforce actually matches the hardtop: 3,267 pounds with the roof off, 3,307 pounds with it on.

A Different Kind of Hypercar

Czinger is not building a convertible for the sake of sunshine. The Spyder is a test bed for how far additive manufacturing can replace traditional assembly. If the BrakeNode and NeuralNode concepts hold up under track use, expect to see them filtered down to future production models.
