British WAAM specialist DEEP Manufacturing opens Houston facility in May, a year ahead of schedule, investing $10M in U.S. advanced manufacturing.

British WAAM Specialist Comes to Houston

DEEP Manufacturing, the UK-based leader in wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), is accelerating its U.S. expansion with a new 50,000 sq. ft. facility in Houston, Texas—opening in May 2026, a year earlier than originally planned.

Bringing WAAM to American Industry

The facility represents a $10 million investment in U.S. advanced manufacturing capability. DEEP Manufacturing will use the Houston location to serve energy, defence, and maritime sectors— industries that need large, high-integrity metal components and are increasingly looking to shorten supply chains.

Houston was chosen for its proximity to one of the world's hubs for energy, subsea, and industrial engineering.

Four WAAM Platforms at Launch

Four WAAM platforms will be operational at launch, printing carbon steel and nickel-based alloy components. Work is also underway with Inconel 625. Additional systems will be installed throughout the year, alongside post-processing and inspection capabilities.

The facility will feature a mock-up of a new pressure-rated vessel—the first WAAM part of its kind to be certified to DNV standards.

HexBot Technology

DEEP Manufacturing has developed its own six-arm robotic additive manufacturing platform, the HexBot, which can build metal parts up to 6.2 metres in diameter and 3 metres in height.

The company is a division of DEEP, which is developing next-generation underwater pressure vessels for subsea human habitats.

What This Means

With this facility, DEEP Manufacturing brings industrial-scale WAAM capability directly to U.S. customers. The technology is particularly valuable for large metal components in energy, defence, and maritime applications—sectors where lead times have been a major pain point.

Houston represents a major step in scaling industrial additive manufacturing in the United States, said Peter Richards, CEO of DEEP Manufacturing. By bringing our WAAM capability closer to customers in energy, defence and maritime sectors, we can dramatically reduce lead times for large, high-integrity components while strengthening supply-chain resilience for critical industries.
