SAGA Space Architects and COBOD have finished 36 3D-printed student apartments in Holstebro, Denmark, in what they call Europe's largest project of its kind.

36 Apartments, Six Buildings, One Printer

Denmark now has a new claim to fame in additive construction. SAGA Space Architects, working with 3DCP and COBOD, has completed Skovsporet, a community of 36 student apartments in Holstebro that the team bills as Europe's largest 3D-printed housing project.

The build used a COBOD BOD3 printer to extrude a cement-based mixture layer by layer. Only three operators were needed on site during printing. The first building took several weeks to print; the last one took five days. That learning curve is exactly what large-format concrete printing needs right now.

Speed and Scale Are Finally Aligning

Skovsporet covers six single-story buildings with shared courtyards, gardens, and bike parking. Each apartment ranges from 40 to 50 sq m and includes a kitchen, study area, lounge, bathroom, and sleeping space. The project preserved 90% of the existing trees on the wooded site.

Once the concrete shells were up, traditional crews added roofs, doors, windows, insulation, and interior finishes. The layered print lines are still visible inside, but wood, cork, and drywall soften the look. Students are expected to move in soon.

What This Means for Affordable Housing

SAGA Space Architects co-founder Sebastian Aristotelis put it plainly: "We have gone from printing small prototypes to creating 36 real homes and an entire community. That is the scale where technology starts to matter as a serious tool for architecture."

The project stayed within a strict affordable-housing budget, according to the team. That detail matters more than the printer specs. If 3D-printed housing is going to move past the demo phase, it needs to prove it can deliver ordinary homes at ordinary costs. Skovsporet is a real data point in that argument.
