Three companies brought affordable desktop UV printers to San Francisco, with prices starting under $1,700 and full-color 3D printing on the horizon.
Open Sauce 2026 in San Francisco turned into a showcase for desktop UV printing. Three companies showed machines that bring industrial UV-cured color printing into small shops and garages. The vibe was clear: UV is no longer just for factories.
What UV Printing Actually Does
UV printing is a cross between 2D photo printing and resin 3D printing. It uses ultraviolet light to cure ink onto almost any material you can fit inside the print chamber. Flat stickers, photos, and textured 2.5D relief are all in scope. Some machines are even pushing into full-color 3D objects.
The industrial machines that do this today cost $50,000 or more. The goal of the desktop wave is to cut that price by 90 percent while keeping the output useful.
xTool O1 Omni
xTool had the biggest footprint at Open Sauce, with a full demo area outside the main stage. The O1 Omni is a four-in-one UV printer. It can print on wood, acrylic, glass, metal, and more. A single UV head starts at $1,699. Add a fabric printhead for direct-to-garment and DTF printing and the price rises to $3,969.
The machine feels like a natural extension of xTool's laser cutter lineup. The company already knows how to sell creative tools to hobbyists and small businesses. Whether the Omni delivers on print quality remains to be seen, but the pricing is aggressive.
EufyMake E1
EufyMake, formerly AnkerMake, was first to market with a desktop UV printer. Early success on Kickstarter created supply chain headaches. The E1 ships now for $2,499, with a larger-format version at $3,299.
Build volume tops out at 5 mm of relief. That is enough for keychains, signs, and thin custom parts. It is not enough for bulky figurines. EufyMake has had time to work out the kinks since launch, and user reviews suggest the software is now stable.
Morpho
Morpho is the least known of the three, but possibly the most interesting. The founder, Brett Wang, led DJI's camera division before starting Morpho. The booth was small, the machine looked polished, and the company plans to open a Kickstarter in August.
The base model uses an Epson F1080 printhead at 1,440 DPI with six ink channels. A Pro version swaps to the industrial Epson i3200 head at 2,400 DPI with eight channels and lists full-color 3D printing as a supported mode. Morpho claims the F1080 head can be upgraded to the i3200 later, so early buyers are not locked out of future capability.
Full-color 3D printing on the Pro is still unproven. Morpho has not yet shown a freestanding 3D print. For that specific use case, the HeyGears G1X is further along.
The Bottom Line
Desktop UV printing is moving from novelty to tool. Prices under $2,000 remove the barrier for small shops that want custom signage, product prototypes, or personalized goods. Full-color 3D printing is still early, but the hardware is coming. If Morpho and HeyGears deliver on their promises, 2027 could be the year UV becomes standard on the maker's workbench.
