Eaton opened a European Centre of Additive Manufacturing in Wimborne, UK, to scale production of certified aerospace components using metal 3D printing.

Intelligent power management company Eaton has opened a European Centre of Additive Manufacturing at its aerospace campus in Wimborne, UK. The facility consolidates design, engineering, printing and validation under one roof, giving aerospace customers a faster path from CAD file to certified part.

The centre is built around Eaton's largest metal additive manufacturing system, which the company says delivers up to twice the productivity of previous platforms. The system supports electron beam additive processes and is expected to use titanium for high-reliability commercial and military programs. Eaton is also pursuing AS9100 aerospace quality certification for the facility.

Tomasina Bailey, Eaton's vice president of engineering for the Aerospace Group, said the expansion lets customers move faster from design to production. "With deep engineering expertise and integrated capabilities, Eaton is setting the standard for scaling additive in aerospace," she said.

Mike York, director of additive manufacturing and digital design at Eaton Aerospace, added that the facility will evolve based on customer needs. The company plans to broaden material and process capabilities as demand grows.

The hub marks a notable step in aerospace additive maturation. Rather than treating 3D printing as a prototyping afterthought, Eaton is betting on it as a production-ready technology for flight-critical parts. If the certification work stays on schedule, the Wimborne facility could become a model for how tier-one suppliers localise metal AM in Europe.
