The problem with global infill
When a part needs extra strength around a screw hole, a joint, or a mounting point, the instinct is to raise the infill percentage globally. That works, but it wastes material and adds hours to the print time. A better approach is to make only the stressed region solid and leave the rest of the part at your normal infill density.
How modifier meshes work
Every modern slicer can apply custom settings to a specific volume. In PrusaSlicer and Slic3r, this feature is called a modifier mesh. In Cura, it is called a Per Model Settings overlap or support blocker. The concept is the same: you load or draw a shape that covers the area you want to change, then assign new settings to that shape only.
The CAD trick
If you have the original CAD file, model a thin shell or block that sits exactly over the region that needs reinforcement. Export it as a separate STL. Load both files into the slicer. Avoid these mistakes
Make sure the modifier mesh slightly overlaps the model surface. If it sits exactly on the boundary, some slicers will ignore the edge. Check the layer preview before you start the print. You want to see solid layers confined to the target area, not bleeding into surrounding geometry. Also, keep the modifier mesh simple. Complex shapes increase slicing time and can cause unexpected toolpaths.
Other settings you can change
Infill is just one option. You can also raise the wall count, slow the print speed, or increase the number of top and bottom layers in the modified region. Some slicers let you change the infill pattern or add ironing. Experiment with the combination that gives you the strength you need without turning the whole part into a brick.
