AI-generated 3D models have gotten good at producing impressive shapes, but they still arrive at the slicer with two consistent problems: the model is too large for the build plate, or the geometry includes unprintable overhangs that need supports. Fixing either used to mean opening external CAD software, cutting the mesh by hand, and designing connector pegs or sockets to hold the pieces together after printing. Print by Parts is an automated segmentation tool built into the Hi3D browser platform. It splits a generated model into discrete, orientation-ready components, then places matching joints at each cut point. The pieces come out ready to load into a slicer individually, and the joints align precisely enough to assemble the final object without post-processing the geometry in separate software.

How It Works

The feature runs in two modes. Character mode handles humanoid figures and splits them into two to six parts: head, torso, arms, legs. General mode handles buildings, vehicles, and props. In both modes, you draw split lines across the mesh and the system labels each resulting section automatically.

Connector options include ball joints, rivet joints, and mortise-and-tenon joints. Each joint type has adjustable size, position, and fit. Once the splits and connectors are set, you can toggle an explode view to preview separated parts or an X-ray mode to inspect the joint geometry before exporting. Each part exports as its own printable mesh file.

A figurine or prop that previously required an hour of manual mesh repair in Blender before it could be sliced can now go from AI prompt to slicer-ready STL files in minutes.
