LightMake's new L4 packs four independent print heads and linear motors into a single desktop machine.
Four print heads, one box
LightMake announced the L4, a desktop 3D printer with four independent print heads. Each head moves on its own linear motor track, so you can run four separate models simultaneously or mix four materials in a single print.
Speed and material mixing
The L4 reaches 1,000 mm/s travel speed and supports up to four filaments at once. That is not just a novelty. Being able to print soluble supports alongside model material on a desktop machine changes what you can do without a second printer.
Who this is for
Small print shops, prototype teams, and anyone who runs a lot of small parts will get the most out of four heads. Hobbyists who mostly print one model at a time will pay for capability they rarely use. The question is whether the productivity gain justifies the premium over a single-head machine.
Market context
Multi-head desktop printers have stayed niche for years. The L4 is the first one that looks like it could cross over into wider use. The linear motor system is the differentiator. It keeps the frame stiff and the heads fast without the ringing you get from lighter belt-driven setups.
