Mintion Launches W1 Electric Filament Respooler for Multi-Color Workflows

A small tool for a very specific frustration

If you have ever transferred filament from a 3kg spool to a 1kg reel, untangled a partially used roll, or prepared bulk filament for an AMS-style multi-color setup, you know the process is tedious. Chinese company Mintion thinks it has the answer: the W1 Electric Filament Respooler.

The W1 handles three main tasks: moving third-party filament onto Bambu Lab AMS-compatible spools, converting bulk 3kg filament into standard 1kg spools, and recovering tangled or partially used rolls. A linear rail guidance system keeps the winding neat, and three speed modes let you choose between silent operation and faster transfers.

Speed and build quality

Mintion claims the W1 can rewind a full 1kg spool in under four minutes on turbo mode. Real-world times will vary with filament type and spool condition, but even at half that speed the device is faster than hand winding. The company originally planned to 3D print the first production batch of W1 units. After feedback from users and creators, it switched every pre-order to injection-molded parts for better consistency, durability, and finish.

That shift signals Mintion is taking the W1 seriously as a production tool, not just a prototype. The company already makes a filtration unit for ABS and ASA printing that earned decent reviews. The W1 follows the same formula: solve a real workflow problem at a fair price.

The W1 is available for pre-order now at an early bird price of $89.99, 25% off the $119.99 regular price. Injection-molded units are scheduled to ship in mid-to-late September. If you pre-ordered early and do not want to wait for the redesigned version, Mintion says you can request a full refund.

For makers running multi-material setups or anyone tired of hand-spooling filament, the W1 is a practical upgrade. It does not print anything, but it might save you enough time to print something else instead.
