Prusa's refreshed XL+, CORE One L+, and CORE One+ (Gen 2) bring nozzle wipers, faster tool calibration, and new belts while keeping prices flat. Existing owners can buy upgrade kits instead of replacing their machines.

Prusa Research has quietly updated three of its most popular 3D printers. The refreshed lineup, including the XL+, CORE One L+, and CORE One+ (Gen 2), arrives today with hardware improvements that target print quality, ease of use, and long-term maintainability. Prices stay exactly the same as the outgoing models, and existing owners can buy upgrade kits rather than replace their machines.

What changed across the board

Every model in the refresh gets three shared upgrades. Prusa installed GT1.5 belts designed to reduce fine-line artifacts and resonance patterns on smooth surfaces. An integrated nozzle wiper cleans residual filament before each print starts, cutting down on stray strings and blobs. The CORE One L+ and CORE One+ (Gen 2) also receive a revised top panel that pops off without tools for faster maintenance access.

XL+ gets the biggest boost

The XL keeps its 360 x 360 x 360 mm build volume and toolchanging architecture, but the practical changes matter more than the spec sheet suggests. A new 360-degree cooling system distributes airflow more evenly around the nozzle, improving overhangs, bridges, and fine details. Prusa also replaced the old removable-pin toolhead calibration with a permanently mounted eddy-current sensor that the company says aligns toolheads roughly 20 times faster. High-flow nozzles now come standard, and the printer is prepped for chamber temperatures up to 60 C, though the active chamber heater required to hit that number is still under development.

CORE One+ (Gen 2) focuses on first-layer speed

The smaller CORE One+ gets the widest set of changes. Prusa revised the heatbed mounting system so the printer can skip the absorbing heat warm-up stage for materials printed at 85 C or below. That means first layers start sooner across PLA, PETG, and similar filaments. The snap-on top panel and revised ventilation from the CORE One L design carry over, along with the shared nozzle wiper and GT1.5 belts.

CORE One L+ gets the essentials

The CORE One L+ refresh is comparatively modest. The machine already adopted several of the structural improvements now spreading across the lineup, so this update mainly adds the GT1.5 belts and nozzle wiper. Prusa is selling the corresponding upgrade kit for GBP 22.99, making it the cheapest on-ramp into the refreshed hardware.

Upgrade paths and availability

Assembled CORE One+ (Gen 2) and CORE One L+ units are shipping immediately. Assembled XL+ printers follow later in August. Upgrade kits and individual components roll out in waves: CORE One+ upgrades come first, with CORE One L+ and XL+ kits arriving around the end of August into early September. Any open order for an XL, CORE One L, or CORE One+ that has not shipped yet will automatically upgrade to the refreshed version at no extra cost.

Existing printers will continue receiving firmware updates, PrusaSlicer improvements, and spare parts. Prusa is also preparing the INDX automatic tool-changing system for the CORE One+, with testing underway on the CORE One L platform. The Pressure Advance calibration has been refined to better account for filament flow characteristics, which should improve extrusion consistency across different material batches and vendors.

For buyers, the refresh removes the need to wait for a generational leap. The underlying frame and motion system stay the same, but the day-to-day experience gets measurably better without a price increase. That is a rare move in an era where most manufacturers charge a premium for minor revisions.
