Thirty years ago, Allen Iverson stepped onto an NBA court in the Reebok Question and changed the sneaker world. The silhouette, the Hexalite bubbles, the way it moved on foot: all of it became legend. On August 25, 2026, Reebok and 3D-printing footwear company Zellerfeld released the Question 96/26, a one-piece reinterpretation that keeps the DNA but drops the old construction entirely.
The shoe prints in zellerFOAM, a TPU compound that is breathable, washable, and recyclable. There is no stitching, no glue, no traditional assembly. The oval midsole windows and honeycomb pattern that defined the 1996 original are still there, but they are molded into the single printed structure rather than attached afterward. Two colorways launched first: Lilac and Stone.
Zellerfeld's approach makes the Question 96/26 behave more like a digital product than a fixed archival reissue. The design file exists as a living document, which means future updates or new colorways can appear without retooling a factory. Reebok says the 30th anniversary season will bring additional releases beyond the initial drop.
Pricing sits at $169 for adult sizes, and the only place to buy is Zellerfeld.com. That direct-to-consumer model is intentional: Zellerfeld wants to prove that shoes can move from digital file to customer without the traditional wholesale supply chain.
Not everyone will want a 3D-printed basketball shoe, and the $169 entry point sits well above a standard retro. But for collectors who care about where sneakers go next, the Question 96/26 is the clearest signal yet that legacy brands are willing to let go of old methods entirely.
What 3D printing actually changes here
A normal sneaker starts with dozens of flat material pieces that get cut, stitched, and glued into shape. That process creates waste, limits geometry, and locks brands into lead times measured in months. Zellerfeld's printer builds the upper and midsole as one continuous object, which eliminates most of those constraints.
The resulting shoe has a more sculptural look than the original Question. The curves flow in ways that molds cannot reproduce. Weight sits lower because there is no internal structure holding separate pieces together. The trade-off is feel: 3D-printed footwear still divides users who prefer the give of traditional foam midsoles.
Zellerfeld has already worked with brands outside basketball, so the Question 96/26 is as much a proof of concept for the technology as it is a love letter to Iverson's legacy. If it sells out, expect other retro names to follow the same path.
