The marker problem
Professional 3D scanning has a tedious ritual: stick reflective markers all over the object, hope they stay put, then scan in sections because no single rig does both large surfaces and fine detail. On a vintage car or museum artifact that is time-consuming and sometimes unacceptable.
SHINING 3D's new EinScan Trak is built around a different idea. The system watches the scanner, not the object. Retroreflective markers live on the scanner housing itself, so the optical tracker on the tripod knows where the scanner is in space without anything on the workpiece.
Two modes, one project
The spherical scanner module pairs with the tracker wirelessly for large-area capture. Pull the module free and it becomes a handheld blue-laser scanner for wheel wells, intake manifolds, or tight cavities. Both modes feed into the same project file, so you can merge a full car body scan with a close-up of the engine bay without exporting, re-registering, or switching software.
Three laser projection modes are included: 19 crossed pairs for speed, 7 parallel lines for sharp edges on mechanical parts, and a single deep line for narrow channels. The scanner captures up to 2.63 million points per second at 0.05mm resolution, with a 5MP texture camera for color data.
Why it matters
Wireless operation over Wi-Fi 6 with hot-swappable batteries means the scanner runs for five and a half hours in tracking mode and three and a half handheld. A Hybrid Leapfrog mode lets you move the tripod mid-scan while keeping alignment, so the effective scanning volume is not fixed.
The price is also notable. SHINING 3D moved the core tracking architecture from its high-end FreeScan Trak Nova down into the EinScan line. Professionals who would previously have justified a six-figure metrology rig now have a portable marker-free option that starts well below that threshold.
