Industrial 3D printing leader Stratasys reports major reliability gains on its flagship F900 system, driven by manufacturing upgrades and customer feedback.

Stratasys has announced a significant milestone for its flagship F900 industrial 3D printer — a 22% year-over-year improvement in system reliability. The improvement is the result of targeted manufacturing upgrades rolled out in 2025, developed in collaboration with the company's Industrial Customer Advisory Board (CAB).

Why Reliability Matters for Industrial FDM

The F900 is Stratasys' large-format FDM system designed for technical thermoplastics, typically used for aerospace, automotive, and industrial tooling applications. These applications involve long build times, and any process failures or equipment downtime can have a substantial impact on cost-per-part and delivery schedules.

Customer-Driven Improvements

The Customer Advisory Board — comprising representatives from aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing sectors — worked with Stratasys engineering to identify and address key failure points in the F900 platform. The 2025 upgrades focused on:

  • Improved thermal management
  • Updated control electronics
  • Refined material extrusion pathways

These changes come at a time when industrial additive manufacturing is increasingly being used for end-use production parts, not just prototyping. As the technology matures, reliability becomes a primary differentiator between systems.

The Bigger Picture

This reliability push aligns with Stratasys' broader strategy to position FDM as a viable production technology. The company has been emphasizing standardized processes and repeatability — critical requirements for aerospace and medical certifications.

The F900 remains one of the most widely deployed industrial FDM systems globally, with a build volume of 600 × 600 × 800 mm and support for high-performance materials including ULTEM, PEEK, and carbon-fiber-reinforced nylon.
