Tripo AI Raises $50M For Spatial 3D Generation
Tripo AI has announced a $50 million growth funding round this week, backed by Alibaba Ventures and Baidu Ventures. The investment will be used to scale their native 3D generation models and expand their developer platform.
What Changed
Unlike most AI 3D tools that generate meshes via intermediate 2D diffusion, Tripo is building models that model geometry natively in spatial space. This approach produces cleaner, watertight assets that require far less cleanup before use in printing, games or manufacturing.
The company has already released updated model families that can generate production ready assets in under 10 seconds, with support for both STL and STEP output formats.
What This Means For 3D Printing
This is the largest single investment in pure AI 3D generation to date. For makers this is significant: usable on-demand 3D generation is moving from experimental to mainstream. If Tripo delivers on their roadmap, generating printable parts directly from text prompts will be standard within 12 months.
The funding will also support integration with major slicer software, with official plugins for Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer currently in beta testing.
